Taylor gets yellow paint

Yellow Paint
October 26, 2010

During the last days of warm weather before the late October snow storm Taylor
and Maclaren slopped several layers of newspaper strips dipped in flour glue
over balloon molds to form paper mache pumpkins. After the paper mache dried the
girls covered their creations with a final layer of orange paper and set them
outside to dry.  The paper pumpkins had to be rescued from an unexpected
rainstorm, but were saved by a warm oven.

Today Taylor had been asking her daddy if she could have some yellow paint to
finish her paper mache pumpkin.  Papa asked Taylor if she would like to go with
him to Home Depot to buy hardware that would automatically close the door at the
top of the living room steps.  At first she declined, but when asked if perhaps
she would like to look for yellow paint there, she ran out the door toward the
car ready to go to Home Depot.

The first stop was at the hinge section where Taylor examined many of the
offerings asking if each might be what Papa was looking for.  There were some
spring loaded hinges, but none were the right size.  So Papa asked Taylor if we
should check out the paint section and look for yellow paint.  Off we went.

Taylor excitedly pointed out numerous containers with any hint of yellow on the
label, asking if yellow paint was inside.  We took two loops through the entire
paint department and the only yellow paint Papa located was in a spray can
designed to mark pavement for things like underground lines.  The search for
yellow paint was abandoned, so Papa and Taylor were headed back to the door
hardware section where Taylor asked if she could ask where she could find yellow
paint.  Papa saw no likely person but told Taylor, “Of course you may ask.”  We
continued back toward the isle with hinges.

Back among the hinges and latches Taylor looked up at a man restocking a shelf.
He turned and asked, “Could I help you find something?”

Taylor responded, “I need yellow paint, please.”

“Well, follow me.  I think the paint department can help you.”

In the paint department the man from door hardware introduced Taylor to a man
behind the counter in the paint department, and said to Taylor, “I think he can
help you.”

As the paint man looked down toward Taylor she told him, “I need yellow paint,
please.”

“What kind of yellow paint do you want?”

“Bright yellow

“Well, look at the color samples on the wall behind you and see what kind of
yellow paint you like.”

After studying the dozens of paint samples Taylor pointed to one and announced,
“I like that one.”

“Would you like it in glossy or matt?”

“I like shiny.”

“OK, I can make that for you.”

As the paint man searched for a little can of glossy paint, Taylor looked up and
asked, “Do you have any brushes my size?”

“Yes, look on the wall over there.”

We went looking for brushes as the paint man worked on Taylor’s yellow paint
sample.
Taylor found a brush to her liking and returned to wait patiently while the
paint man mixed up her yellow paint.   After vigorously shaking the little can
of yellow paint, he handed it to his little customer who thanked the man, and
proudly marched away with paint can in one hand and her little brush in the
other.

Taylor's first Day of School

Today I started school.  Only 17 years to go.  I hope my mommy graduates college before me.  I just know she can do it.

Tay starts an ant farm

Taylor, the always curious youngster, asked papa many questions about ants.  So together they made an ant farm and gathered ants.  Following are pictures of what we have so far.

Taylor turned 5

Here is a photo slideshow of my adventure to Disneyland and back with my mommy, daddy, Granny and good friend Maclaren.  I had the best time ever.  I met so many princesses and Maclaren and I got to wear princess dresses every day we were there.  We looked so cute that lots of people stopped us and asked if they could have their pictures taken with us.On Tuesday May 4th I went down to my local elementary school to take my kindergarden assessment which I passes with flying colors. I am so excited to start kindergarden this fall.

After my assessment, and mommy found her wallet, we hit the road for Las Vegas.  Can you believe there is a hotel that has a permanent circus tent, amusement park and TWO pools.  It was amazing.  Around 4:30 we arrived to Circus Circus in time to catch a trapeze act and run around like crazy kids in the casino.  I don't know why you have to be 21 to play all the sparkling musical flashing games.  They sure look fun.
Wednesday morning, the day before I turned 5, we woke up bright and early and got on the road heading for California.  It was a beautiful drive.  We saw lots of Joshua Trees and desert flowers and the mountain off in the distance even had snow on them.
We got to the hotel around 3 and after we unpacked granny headed to the grocery store and Maclaren and I went to the pool.  It was so much fun.  I wished I had brought swimmies with me, but it was ok because I knew granny would find some at the store and bring them to me.  Maclaren already knew how to swim so she didn't need any floaties, but she had fun with them once we had them.
Thursday morning we woke up early (5:30am) and had to wait for the breakfast buffet to open at 6:30.  What can I say, I was just so excited to see Disneyland.  After what felt like forever waiting we went down and had a great breakfast of waffles, cereal, toast and fruit.  After breakfast mommy got Maclaren and I ready and we all headed out for Disneyland.
Driving up to Disneyland was amazing.  There were beautiful flowers in so many different colors lining the road to where the shuttle dropped us off.  We entered the park and headed left to California Adventure.  The first ride we went on was Soaring California.  We sat in seats that were connected to the ceiling and my little feet dangled in the air.  When the ride started the seats all swooped up and closer to the giant screen.  We virtually flew all over California from the Golden Gate bridge to San Diego.  It was really amazing when we flew over an orange orchard we could actually smell the oranges.
Next we headed towards Ariel's Grotto where I was FINALLY going to meet some princesses.  Of course we stopped on the way to have our pictures taken with Minnie and Mickey.  We also stopped to ride on Mickey's Ferris wheel which was so much fun.  The cars swing back and forth like crazy and my mom got a little scared. Maclaren and I just laughed.  After we got off the Ferris wheel we saw my friend Bode with his sister Zoe and their parents.  We played together for a bit then it was time for lunch with REAL princesses at Ariel's Grotto. We glanced at the princess dresses on our way in and mommy and granny told us to be thinking about which princess dress we would like to get after lunch.  It was AMAZING. As soon as we went down the stairs Ariel was right there.  She was so beautiful and so nice. She said she will be my friend forever.  After we had our pictures taken with Princess Ariel we sat down, which was kinda boring.  I think some grown-ups brought up food, but I wanted more princess time.  Then out came Mulan, Snow White, Belle and Ariel again. They all came to our table one at a time and talked to us.  We got to have our pictures taken with all the princesses after they told us how cute we were and that we would be friends forever.  I even invited them to my house for dinner.  They said maybe.
After lunch we rode rides, ate cotton candy and saw so many exciting and fun things it was unbelievable.  Around 5:30 we finally headed back to the hotel, but not to rest, to go to the pool.  We played and played in the pool until it was finally time for dinner and bed.
May 7th 2010. Maclaren and I woke up around 6:30 in the morning and we woke granny, mommy and daddy up.  I got to open lots of presents and even let Maclaren help me with a few.  I got three barbie princesses, things for the pool, a crown, and some other stuff that I threw over my shoulder as soon as I opened them.  After presents we went to breakfast and I decided that since it was my birthday we would go swimming before we went to Disneyland.  After swimming mom let Maclaren and I have birthday cupcakes and she put our hair in cute braids. We got back in our new princess dresses and were off to Disneyland.  More rides, cotton candy, princesses, castles, characters, and fun fun fun.  Disneyland is so much fun.
After day two of Disneyland I wanted to go back to the hotel and have another birthday swim. So we did.  We went swimming and Maclaren taught me how to swim under water.  Now I am that much closer to learning how to swim.
After the pool we had a yummy dinner and watched a movie and fell asleep after the best birthday ever.
The next morning we decide to skip Disneyland and goto the beach instead.  We packed lunch and snacks in a cooler and headed for Balboa Beach in Newport Beach California. It was so funny when granny drove the car right onto a boat and we floated across the water on a ferry.  When we got to the beach it was awesome.  There was a playground, a lifeguard stand, the beach and the ocean and I played on all of them.  For a long time we played and played and played.  When we were over the beach we showered off, got into our princess dresses and headed to the end of Balboa Pier for a milkshake.  Mmmmm. Yummy.
After the beach we headed back to the hotel, and, you guessed it, the pool.  Once again we swam until the sun went down and we got cold. Then dinner bath and bed.
Then next morning we woke up and sadly packed up getting ready to leave sunny southern California, Disneyland, my pool and the beach. But first Maclaren and I took mommy and granny downstairs for Mother's Day breakfast.  Maclaren called her mom to wish her a happy Mother's Day.
We loaded up in the car and two viewings of Scooby Dooby Doo solves another mystery and we were back at Circus Circus.  Daddy took us down to the Adventure Dome while Granny and Mommy got ready for dinner.  We went to a restaurant where we couldn't run around, had to be quiet and they didn't even have chicken nuggets.  But the adults really liked it and it was Mother's Day so Maclaren and I decided to be good princesses.  After dinner it was back to the hotel for night night.
The next morning we woke up, packed up, had breakfast and hit the road.  Our adventure was coming to an end.  It was a great birthday adventure and I will never forget my 5th birthday.

Taylors first movie

Adventures With Taylor 2006 from Trey Frey on Vimeo.

Disney Bound

The weather has been gloomy lately and poor Taylor has been stuck inside. Our local resorts are all now closed so she has not even been able to go skiing despite all the new snow we are getting this fine April. She has been spending a lot of time on You Tube researching Disneyland. She will be spending her 5th birthday in Anaheim California at Disneyland and the surrounding parks. The princesses seem to be the most anticipated part of her upcoming California adventure. Although she is excited about the rides and attractions they would be that much better if she could get a princess to ride with her. Taylor and her friend Maclaren whom she is taking on her birthday Disneyland adventure just can’t believe there is a place on earth where there is a princess around every corner. I sure hope Mr. Disney doesn’t let them down!!

Did I mention we are driving.  That's about 12 hours in a car with one 4 year old and 1 five year old. Oh and the adults too.

Mending Fences

One of top rails of the horse fence needed replacing. Taylor and Papa measured a new top rail and that needed to be a small log fifteen feet long. The spare log was hard to drag to the fence, push over the fence and drag it across the paddock to where the fence needed fixing. Papa let Taylor carry the hatchet from the tool room while he carried the handsaw and the cordless drill. The old top rail was attached by two big spikes. They had to saw through the old rail next to the spikes to remove it. Sawing was hard but with Taylor holding the handle and Papa guiding the saw the old log was cut through at both ends. Taylor pounded the small stubs to split them away from the spikes. The new rail was lifted in place next to the spikes still in the cross pieces of the fence. We drilled a hole in the new rail so it could be dropped over the spike. Now the other end of the rail needed a hole to hold the spike. Taylor's little hand just barely fits around the drill handle and her fingers just reach the trigger. But she finally drilled through the second hole. The hole was just right and the new rail fit over the spike. Now the horses will not get through the fence at the old broken place. Taylor carried the hatchet back to the tool room while Papa carried the drill and handsaw. What a great little helper she Taylor is.

Strep Throat

Between her first sleepover at her house and her first sleepover at a friend’s house poor little Taylor got strep throat. On the Tuesday night when Maclaren slept over at Taylor’s house Taylor went to bed a little too easily. In the middle of the night she went to her mom with a super hot fever. She took some fever reducer and by morning she was fine again. Her parents debated taking her friend home first thing and canceling the day of skiing, but she seemed totally fine. They want ahead with the ski date and by the end of their second run Taylor was down for the count. She collapsed in her mom’s arms and her fever was back. Granny came up to help get Maclaren home, and Taylor, mom and dad were on their was to the doctor’s office. The poor little thing had a fever pushing 103 degrees Fahrenheit and felt absolutely horrible. 24 hours and some antibiotics later she was back to her old self and was even able to go on her first away from home sleepover the following Saturday. She sure is resilient.

1st Sleepovers

Taylor was not even 5 years old when she had her first sleepover. Her very best good friend Maclaren slept over on a Tuesday and the following Saturday Taylor spent her first night away from home without mommy or daddy, at Maclaren’s. She had a GREAT time. Her mommy, however, was a miserable wreck the entire night and next day until she came home. She did great at both sleepovers. She and her friend went to bed without a fight and slept all through the night. Reports from her night away from home were positive as well. She was polite, ate what she was served and was asleep by 8pm. Her mom secretly hoped for a call in the middle of the night explaining that Taylor NEEDED her and could she please come get her right away. She is growing up so fast!!

Rippin it Tay Style

January 2010 and Taylor Frey is out tearing up the slopes at the canyons, and rocking the new threads she got for Christmas.  A black coat with pink plaid ski pants is her new signature style for the season.  You really have to look sharp if you are a local kid.

Meet ATF

Hi. My name is Augusta Taylor Frey, but you can call me Taylor. I am four years old and I live and play in Park City, Utah. This is a blog of my adventures. My mom is going to author my blog because, well, I am only four years old currently and can't really read and write yet.  Posts will be about all the crazy and adventurous things I do, of which there are plenty.  I started riding horses before I could walk.  Before I turned 5 I skied down from every lift at the canyons, including 9990, which is an experts only lift.  I started riding passenger on dirt bikes when I was three years old, and would have done it earlier but my parents didn’t own them until I was three.  Slackers.  I have a swing in my living room that I like to learn and perform tricks on.  It hangs from about 20 feet and I can really scare my mom when I climb up the swing, while swinging, and then flip upside down.  Since we live on about 5 acres with dogs, cats, horses and lots of people there are always chores to be done, and I love helping with chores.  I am an excellent helper.  So not all posts will be all about fun. Sometimes I have serious work to do like mending fences.  So I hope you enjoy my life and antics.  I know my mom will have fun blogging about them. Enjoy ;-)
